Retention Not So Bad, Says New Report

Thanks to the blogger known as Eduwonkette for sending along news of this new report from the National Bureau of Economic Research on the long-term impact of grade retention on dropout rates in Chicago: "We find that grade retention leads to a modest increase in the probability of dropping out for older students, but has no significant effect on younger students." Holy cow, Batman! Paul Vallas might have been right. (Plus which, lest you all forget, grade retention was and is popular among teachers.)
