Remember This When ISATs Come Out reports that U.S. states (including Illinois) are ``dumbing down'' their grade-school tests, according to a California study of 12 states' 4th grade exam results.

The study compares NAEP and state-reported data and its findings echo a similar study from last month that recently led the NYT editorial page to decry states' testing practices and call for tighter national controls.

The report shows that Illinois, like most other states, reports increases in performance from 2002-2005 that exceed considerably the increases reported from NAEP (and in some cases contradicts declines on NAEP).
