A Thomas H. Reece Teacher Scholarship Fund has been established from contributions given in memory of former President Thomas H. Reece, who died suddenly on September 17th.
Mr. Reece was raised at the time of the Great Depression, during which his family had a difficult time making ends meet. After attending Chicago Public Schools, he went on to receive his bachelors and masters degrees from Chicago Teachers College. During his ensuing years of teaching he could never give enough praise to the education he received or to his outstanding professors there.
In keeping with his philosophies, the annual scholarship will go to a student who is already enrolled in a teacher education or Masters in Education degree program at a public Illinois University.
Applicants will be able to apply for the scholarship in consecutive years.
The scholarship fund will be held in trust and will be self-sustaining. A Memorial Tribute to the Late Thomas H. Reece DVD will be sent to contributors of $10 or more to the fund.
