Reading Coaches Shortage

According to this article from last week's Florida Sentinel (Shortage of coaches hurts D and F schools), there aren't enough reading coaches to go around -- or at least there's not enough of them in the places where they're most needed (lowest performing schools).  I wrote about the need for more reading coaches a few years ago, and remember it was hard to find fully qualified ones and the qualifications had to be lowered to enlarge the pool.  Any coaches, LLTs, ARCS, or school folks want to tell the rest of us what's really going on out there?  Shortages?  Not a problem?  Cuts?  Dead wood? Best thing since sliced bread?
