is controversial among teachers, many parents, and students.

Second campuses of the hugely popular LaSalle Language Academy and
Disney Magnet are expected to emerge this fall in the aftermath of a
CPS proposal to shake up 19 schools -- the first wave of as many as 50
school closings or consolidations over the next five years.
CPS plans to cover the remaining $250 million deficit by
drawing $50 million from its reserve fund and by budgeting $20 million
from projected increases in property tax revenue. The district
will petition legislators in Springfield for the remaining $180 million.
