Kudos to local education writers at the Tribune and the Daily Southtown for winning Education Writers Association awards this year.
In the category "Investigative ReportingUnder 100,000 Circulation,"
first prize goes to Linda Lutton, Kati Phillips and Jonathan Lipman of the Daily Southtown for their piece, Reverse Robin Hood.
In the category "Breaking or Hard NewsOver 100,000 Circulation," Manya
Brachear, Tracy Dell'Angela, Margaret Ramirez, Lori Olszewski,
Stephanie Banchero, and John McCormick of The Chicago Tribune won 2nd
prize for their story Catholic Schools Fight for Survival.
Special Citation in the category Series or Group of Articles goes to
Diane Rado, The Chicago Tribune, for her series Education Finance.
As in the past, I did not win an award. There is no category for freelance writers or
bloggers -- and I probably wouldn't win even if there were.
