This week and last, at least some CPS schools were administering the second round of the Learning First and math diagnostic assessments, implemented over the last couple of years to help schools figure out what's going on earlier on in the year and to create a systemwide assessment instead of the patchwork of tools schools were using previously. The results will be back for schools right after the holiday, and many will look at them at predictors of March ISATs.
Here's my story from last year in Catalyst on the initiative: Districts new strategy to improve teaching. Here's a Kate Grossman story from September about this and other new efforts in CPS: Changes, challenges will test CPS.
