ISAT Problems -- Already?

Here are some ISAT updates and notices that I've gotten today.

Are things going wrong with the test administration already? Are they big, or small?

Let us know what's happening at your school or in your child's classroom.

Usually we only hear about foul-ups and problems way after the fact.

I'll add any updates or information that I get to this thread.

ISAT CRITICAL INFORMATION

As of March 3, 2009

The following notice contains information regarding problems with ISAT testing

materials. The complete announcements are posted at

http://www.isbe.net/assessment/isat.htm or

http://research.cps.k12.il.us/cps/accountweb/Assessment/ISAT/.

ISAT Grade 6 Mathematics Reader Scripts

There is a printing error in the grade 6 mathematics reader script. Page 10 of

the reader script does NOT appear between pages 9 and 11. Rather, page 10

appears between pages 44 and 45. Refer to the ISAT Grade 6 Mathematics

Reader Scripts announcement for the complete details.

Addition to the ISAT Reading Instructions for Grades 3 – 8

On page 14 of the ISAT Test Administration Manuals, the text states that LEP

students may write their answer to the reading and mathematics extended-

response questions in English or Spanish. However, the directions for sessions

2 and 3 did not include oral instructions informing LEP students they may write

their answers to the extended-response questions in English or Spanish. Refer

to the Addition to the ISAT Reading Instructions for Grades 3 – 8

announcement for the complete details.

Misspelled word on Page 2 of the Grade 3 ISAT Writing Folder

In the very first line in the ASSIGNMENT box on page 2 of the Writing Folder

the word health is misspelled as heath. The "l" is missing. Please use the

instructions that follow to inform students of the misspelling. Refer to the

Misspelled Word on Page 2 of the Grade 3 ISAT Writing Folder announcement

for the complete details.

Grade 7 Science Test

The sample item used to demonstrate answering a multiple-choice item is

incorrectly marked in the grade 7 answer documents (page 22). The correct

answer for the sample item is “D” and “B” is incorrectly marked on the answer

document. The Test Administration Manual states that “D” is the correct

answer. Refer to the Grade 7 Science Test f announcement or the complete

details.

ISAT Grades 4-8 Rulers

The ISAT rulers from grades 4-8 were printed incorrectly with increments of ¼

inch and ½ cm (like the grade 3 rulers). The Illinois State Board of Education

(ISBE) is aware of this discrepancy and is directing schools to proceed with

testing using the grade 4-8 rulers they have. Refer to the ISAT Grades 4-8

Rulers announcement for the complete details.

ISAT Writing Returned Labels

There are detailed instructions on pages 70-76 of the 2009 District & School

Coordination manual about how ALL of your scorable and nonscorable ISAT

test materials are to be packaged and labeled for return to Pearson. Refer to

the ISAT Writing Returned Labels announcement for the complete details.

PINK LABELS – are to be used for SCORABLE WRITING materials returns

GOLD LABELS – are to be used for NONSCORABLE WRITING materials returns
