Rufus Williams Board Member, Board of Education

Rufus Williams, Board Member Rufus Williams heads Olympus, LLC as its President and CEO. Olympus, LLC was incorporated in 2000 and provides business and financial management to individuals, with a focus on athletes and entertainers. Additionally, Olympus provides representation in the areas of contract negotiation, negotiation strategy and career development for its clients.

Mr. Williams has spent over 25 years in financial services and management, with nearly 15 of those years in wealth and business management. At Olympus, Mr. Williams is responsible for overall firm management and business development. He handles direct client relationships with the firm's largest clients.

Prior to founding Olympus, LLC, Rufus worked for 10 years at the HARPO Entertainment Group a company best known for the production of the top-rated talk show, "The Oprah Winfrey Show". At HARPO, Williams was a senior manager and held several positions, including Chief Financial Officer, Controller, and Vice President--Financial Planning and Strategic Development. He was instrumental in establishing the operating structure and financial management of the organization. He was also responsible for managing Ms. Winfrey's extensive philanthropic endeavors and other special projects.

A Certified Public Accountant, Williams began his career at Arthur Andersen & Co., where he rose to the level of Experienced Audit Manager. He left after 10 years to take a position as Corporate Audit Manager at Baxter Healthcare Corporation. Rufus graduated Magna Cum Laude from Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA with a degree in Accounting. Rufus is Chicago native, having come of age in the North Lawndale and West Garfield communities on Chicago 's Westside.

A true production of Chicago Public Schools, he attended Crown and Dvorak Elementary Schools, Morton Upper Grade Center, Lane Technical High School, then graduated from Orr High School. His son is enrolled at Whitney Young Magnet High School.

Williams has always been involved in professional and civic causes. He was appointed by Mayor Richard M. Daley in April 2005 to a two-year term as a Member of the Board of Education of the City of Chicago. He had previously served as the President of the Local School Council of Whitney M. Young Magnet High School. Rufus was appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Chicago Public School Teachers' Pension and Retirement Fund of Chicago in June 2005.

He also services as Vice Chairman and Treasurer of the Board of Trustees of Providence-St. Mel School. He is a past President of the Better Boys Foundation and past Treasurer of the Board of Trustees of Francis W. Parker School. Rufus is married with two children.
