Illinois AYP Not So Hard

As the attached PDF shows, 70 percent of IL schools met AYP over the past two years, statewide -- a much higher percentage than many other states, and about at the national average.  Download ayp_results0405_state_by_state.pdf

These figures do much to debunk the notion that the Illinois requirements re AYP are more stringent than those in other places, as well as the idea that NCLB's AYP rating system "guarantees" that most schools fail.  They also show that the percentages of schools not making AYP aren't skyrocketing. Nationally, only about a quarter of schools aren't making AYP, according to recent reports.

Thanks to Mike Petrilli at Fordham for passing along the chart.
