Yesterday was CPS's third monthly half day of school under a program that, for the last two or three years, requires schools to send kids home halfway through the day and do some PD and some school improvement planning. My questions are these: What are schools doing with the time? How is it different from PD and Institute days (full days where teachers are there without kids)? What does it do to classroom instruction? What do parents do with all these half days, in terms of childcare? Oh, and while I'm at it, how did report card pickup day go last week?
