CTU Blocking $40 Million For Teachers, Trib Says

According to today's Tribune, CTU is on the verge of blocking CPS from successfully applying for a $40 million federal grant to reward teachers for superior performance that many classroom teachers might actually support (Rewarding good teachers).

No guarantee that CPS would get the grant if it did apply -- or that CTU won't change its mind.  As you may recall, the Governor's big new education plan includes a performance pay component, and WBEZ reported on the earlier rumblings this spring about a performance pay pilot in CPS.  But otherwise it's been below the radar -- CPS hasn't talked it up, and it hasn't gotten much attention from beat reporters.
