Whatever you may think of charter schools, pro or con or "it depends," it's hard not to lament the lack of real-time (vs. after the fact) news coverage and public discussion that this latest round of charter wrangling underwent before being enacted. Sure, there are lots of other things going on (Derrick Rose!). Sure, the changes passed don't have as much immediate effect as budget cuts, reorganizations, annual test scores, and all the rest (early childhood funding! teacher evaluation!). But still, it seems like teachers, parents, and reporters were all caught off guard when the charter cap language went through, and that seems sad. Or, maybe everyone but me knew this was coming.
