Apparently, charter proponents in New York City have discovered Chicago's favorite charter cap trick -- creating multiple campuses under a single charter -- originated under Vallas but still alive and kicking with some limitations now. Check out some of the back and forth here (Mega-Headed Charter Schools?) -- sound familiar?
It's not clear whether NYC's going to get away with it, however, having just failed to get the cap lifted this spring in the legislature. And in truth, some would argue that the multiple campus approach helped create a modicum of quality among Chicago's charters that hasn't existed in other parts of the country.
