A Job At Whittier For Someone Like You?

They're looking for a bilingual reading specialist at Pilsen's Whittier Elementary, as you can see below. Maybe that's the job for you.

Thanks to a friend of the site for passing this along. Other job openings that you know about? Feel free to let us know in the comments section.

Dear Friends,

We urgently need your help to fill the Reading First reading interventionist position (grades K-3) at Whittier Elementary School , a Chicago Public School . Whittier is a small school, pre-school through 7th grade, in the Pilsen community. 97 % of our students receive free or reduced lunch. We have a dual language program (Spanish/English) and a multicultural curriculum, and Whittier is characterized by a spirit of commitment and collaboration among the faculty, staff, and administration.

Unfortunately, our current readeing interventionist is leaving. We ask for your help in filling this vacancy because we know you share our commitment to a quality education for all children. Our students who are below grade level in reading need the extra support an interventionist provides.

To apply for the job a candidate must have a state of Illinois reading endorsement. In addition, because our primary students learn to read in Spanish, the candidate must be bilingual (Spanish/English).

If you know someone who may be interested in the position please have them call Whittier and speak with Zoila Garcia, principal, or Howard Emmer, Reading First Lead Literacy Teacher. The phone number at Whittier is 773-535-4590.

If you are able to be of assistance in this important matter, you will be contributing greatly to the educational needs of our much deserving students.

Thank you very much,

Zoila Garcia, principal, Whittier Elementary School
