8th Grade Graduation Debate Goes National

The debate over elaborate eighth grade graduation ceremonies is going national (Does 8th-Grade Pomp Fit the Circumstance? NYT) and none other than Barack Obama has joined the fray:

“Now hold on a second — this is just eighth grade,” he said. “So, let’s

not go over the top. Let’s not have a huge party. Let’s just give them

a handshake.” He continued: “You’re supposed to graduate from eighth

grade.”

There's also a critical comment from Andre Cowling, who just finished his first year as principal of Harvard Elementary. He's quoted as calling them “Easter Sunday on

steroids.”

Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton returns to the public eye with a speech at a former volunteeer's high school graduation (Clinton fulfills promise to studentMSNBC).
