Everyone's always talking about extending learning time in CPS, but it seems like the district may not be walking that walk when it comes to the length of the school day and the number of days students are in school.
Thanks to a friend for sending me this working paper (Kate Walsh Summary PDF) from a recent conference held by the Fordham Foundation that shows that the total number of hours kids spend in school varies widely over the course of a year.
Guess who comes in at the bottom? Yep, CPS. In contrast, NYC schools are an hour longer a day -- and there are 12 more student days a year.
