Lakeview becomes one of the first Chicago neighborhoods to have its own mobile app

Chicago is known for its neighborhoods. There are about 200 of them, along with 77 community areas, and each offers a unique blend of shops, services, and culture. This week one of these neighborhoods got a dedicated mobile app. If you spend any amount of time in Lakeview (Cubs game, anyone?), are planning a visit, or have been considering exploring it in greater depth, grab your smartphone and GoLakeview.

A joint venture between the Lakeview and Lakeview East Chambers of Commerce, GoLakeview is designed to "connect local residents and visitors to Lakeview neighborhood businesses, services, events and amenities." The free tool includes such features as a calendar of community events, a local business search tool, and information on where to park. Retailers can be located by way of GPS directions, and users can access Daily Specials to find discounts and special offers related to Lakeview stores. Thanks to the handiwork of mobile developer Michael Johnson of Chicago's New Media Three, the app is available both for Apple and Android devices, and there is also an accompanying mobile Web site.

One of GoLakeview's key features is its Explorer Packs - mini-guides to getting the most out of the area. Think of these as Lakeview-specific Moseys: you can experience a Walking Art Tour of local galleries, a Craft Beer Tour, Dog Days in Lakeview, and more. GoLakeview curates descriptive content from each featured location to help users gauge which suggested experience is right for them.

"GoLakeview really helps showcase this great community and everything it has to offer to not only Lakeview’s first-time visitors, but also our residents," says Lakeview Chamber of Commerce Director Heather Way. The app really does benefit everyone, consumers and local businesses alike. Increasingly, both are relying on digital media to help them get and stay connected. Businesses share their offerings, special events, and deals, while consumers share their experiences with friends (GoLakeview makes it easy to post your finds to Facebook and Twitter). Through mobile media, everyone can engage with the Lakeview community.

Chicago's neighborhoods are full of hidden local treasures. And Lakeview's ready to show you what it's got.
