National Infertility Awareness Week: 1 in 8 Couples Experience Infertility

At Fertility Centers of Illinois, we join RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association to recognize National Infertility Awareness Week®, April 23 through April 29.

While I help couples and individuals grow families, it is also a cause that I understand personally. I needed fertility treatment to have my family.

Fertility treatment is so hard! I encourage patients to try to remain positive and know that fertility treatments are successful more now than ever. Fertility treatment can feel like a roller coaster: feeling excited during treatment, nervous during the two week wait, then sadness after a negative test. Remember you are stronger than you can imagine and you WILL be a parent. Remember to lean on those around you for support. Those who you feel comfortable talking to: your partner, family, and friends. Online support groups can be a nice source of support.

Remember that you have control: in this situation where it feels like you have no control, remember that your treatment choices are yours. What you do and when you do it or when you stop is completely under your control. Remember there is so much hope!

Building awareness impacts so many - those that are trying to conceive and feeling alone and frustrated, friends and family members who want to help a loved one with infertility, and industry professionals who want others to know they are not alone.

It is my hope we can also bring about change through better insurance coverage and patient options to make having a family a wish granted to many.

If you’d like to learn more about your personal fertility potential or how to support a loved one, please join us during National Infertility Awareness Week. We are hosting free events and webinars, sharing critical infertility knowledge and offering a free fertility checkups.

Free Fertility Awareness Checkup: All Fertility Awareness Checkup appointments booked April 23 - May 6 will be free ($90 value). The checkup assesses basic fertility potential and includes a blood test and ultrasound for women and a semen analysis for men.
