Fall is here? Soon!

Fall is here? Soon!

Technically, it will be summer for almost another month, right? But with Labor Day around the corner, school starting and days getting shorter, if it weren’t so **** hot outside, it would seem like fall already.

Fall is a gorgeous season. It means the end of summer and we will soon need jackets and boots; and by dinnertime, it will feel like the end of the day. But it’s not a sad time of year at all! Chicago is a gorgeous place with so much going on, and the fall season is the beginning of so much in the City.

Opera season and theater season start in the fall. That includes our own theatres and companies, and those theaters that show major productions. It’s time to look at the schedule of the Shubert Theatre, Cadillac, Goodman and smaller neighborhood venues, too. And it’s Chicago Symphony and Lyric Opera time. Check out Broadway in Chicago or Ticketmaster or any such website and make plans for some months to come! Yes, we have such events in the summer, too, but with most time spent inside anyway…why not make these events a priority?

Don’t most schools have fall sports, too? Soccer and football are here! Football is more than the Bears (really, it is). Northwestern is our Big Ten Team (and my alma mater!), but there are other colleges in the area: Univ. of Chicago, U of I in Chicago, and more: De Paul, Bradley and Loyola all have teams. (Sorry if I missed any.)
Fall isn’t an all-indoor season (like winter), so we can save the Museums for then, unless there’s an exhibition that draws you there.

I must admit that just being outdoors on a fall day to enjoy the trees changing colors and the leaves on the ground, going to a park or just walking around downtown or at a local festival, is the best part of fall. It will become cold soon enough. Even before “real winter” we will have a Lot of “indoor days”, so take advantage of our awesome city!
