Another sad day for Hip Hop!
After reportedly paying over 900,000 in back taxes, Lauryn Hill will face the music in jail. The news broke yesterday when a federal judge sentenced the Grammy Award Winner for failing to pay income taxes on money she earned over the past decade. According to our source, She faces up to three months in prison, along with three months of house arrest after that.
Lauryn Hill's statement in court:
"I was put into a system I didn't know the nature of... I'm a child of former slaves. I got into an economic paradigm and had that imposed on me. I sold 50 million units now I'm up here paying a tax debt. If that's not likened to slavery, I don't know what is."
Back in the 90's, the New Jersey native was introduced to world with Hip Hop group "The Fugees" and she later went on to have much success with a solo career with the release of 1998 album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, which won the singer five Grammys. Hill is scheduled to report to prison July 8.
