A clarification: A vote for Biden is a vote for extremism, incompetence and shadow government

Sometimes the danger in this writing business is that the scribe doesn't express himself well enough. It's not the fault of the reader if the message isn't clear, or is confusing, or contradictory.

Thus it was with my post yesterday, "Dump Trump."

In it, I expressed my deep worry that Trump will lose the election and

Senator Strom Thurmond, another proud Democrat.

obliterate the  conservative agenda. I was suggesting that the Republican Party and America might be better off with Vice President Mike Pence as the presidential candidate. But some readers thought I was saying that Trump should not be re-elected.

Far from that was my intent. A Biden administration would be a disaster. It wouldn't be his administration, but the puppeteers will run it, counting on his ever-more-apparent lose of competency  It will be an opaque shadow administration that will be controlled by the Obama/Clinton kleptomaniacs or the far-left crazies.

In their efforts to expunge any wisp of wrong, Democrats ought to get rid of their name. The Democratic Party, whose roots go as far back as  the earliest days of the Republic, can proudly boast of Andrew Jackson, the slave-owners, secessionists, the instigators of Jim Crow and segregationist legislation, Woodrow Wilson, the Dixiecrats, the Southern Tory Democrats, George Wallace and opposition to the Civil Rights and similar laws. Remember the Jefferson/Jackson Day celebrations by the Democratic Party?

Sure, that's not today's party. The Democratic Party has jumped the moderate, middle group and plummeted into an alliance wit the autocratic, class-war radical left.

God help us.

  • A perfect characterization of Biden and his administration. An easier choice between Trump and Biden than was Trump and Clinton. Big question will be Biden’s VP, because that is the wild card, just like Truman. And by limiting is choice to a woman of color, the field is not to impressive.

  • True, the Dixiecrats were Democrats. But that is before they all left the Democratic Party to become today's Republican Party. The George Wallaces of today all proclaim themselves to be members of the party of Lincoln.

  • In reply to jnorto:

But because of its past, shouldn't the Democratic Party be renamed something less "offensive?"

  • In reply to Dennis Byrne:

No, it should just live up to its name.

  • By the way, I notice that you will have to go into compulsory quarantine for two weeks if you decide to come back to Chicago from Florida.

  • Dennis, you're being disingenuous. Again. As a former Democrat, you know that the present Republican Party absorbed the racist Dixiecrats and then was taken over by them. You know about the Southern strategy with its built-in dog whistles preserving racism and voter suppression. This strategy is alive in the Trump administration and is behind his pledge to protect the statues and monuments that honor the traitorous heroes of the Confederacy.

  • Caught me. Yet, to restate my point, if we are to cancel all the reminders of the past and because Democrats were so closely associated with racism, shouldn't the party's name go too? It's the logical extension of the cancel culture, right?

  • The Democrats of modern times are more closely associated with FDR and the New Deal than with the Southern racist Democrats after the Civil War and up to the time the Republicans absorbed them and their racism.

  • In reply to Aquinas wired:

True. But it doesn't matter, does it? The cancel culture requires that even the good should be expunged if there's anything bad in the history.
