The rapacious Ed Burke

Thanks to the Chicago Sun-Times for revealing the depth of Ed Burke's greed, and by extension the petty venality of corrupt Chicago politicians.

Two articles worth reading:

For most of us, saving $1,511.58 in property taxes would be a big deal; we'd be delighted to be able to dial up the county assessor and ask for the break. For Burke, saving $1,511.58 hardly required lifting a finger.

I guess for someone as rich as Burke, made so by the power and position he inherited from his father, you finagle a little $1,500 here and $1,500 there and pretty soon you can live in a gated mansion that rises like a castle in the neighborhood.
