Bombs mailed to liberals awaken tinhats

The Chicago Tribune reports:

The Secret Service said Wednesday that it had intercepted packages containing "potential explosive devices" addressed to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in New York and former President Barack Obama in Washington.

The devices were recovered not long after an explosive device was found in a mailbox at the Bedford, N.Y., home of George Soros, the liberal philanthropist who is a frequent target of criticism from far-right groups.

Before we could read these two graphs conspiracy theorists were hitting th social media to blame the "other side."

Some liberals blamed Trump for fueling violence and hate with his nasty tweets and speeches. Just like the blame pro-lifers for creating the "hateful" environment that spurred pro-lifers to attack abortion clinics.

Some conservatives conjured up the idea that the Democrats did this to themselves to bring their base out to vote in the elections, just days away. Like the proverbial brick the Chicago alderman throws through his own window to gin up support.

Enough already.

I liked this tweet from Joe Walsh:

How about nobody tweets stupid conspiratorial shit, how about nobody gets political, and instead, how about ALL OF US strongly condemn these acts and condemn ALL acts of political violence?

Here's my condemnation: Stop it, everyone. Whether from the right or the left, there's no excuse for violence. And no excuse for expanding blame for one lunatic to an entire group of people.

  • Of course, every decent law-abiding person condemns violence of any kind. But are you suggesting that these suspicious packages could have been mailed by liberals to influence the election?

I don't know who's behind these criminal actions and I hope the FBI will find out. In the meantime I will reserve judgment. I hope you will too.

  • In reply to Aquinas wired:

My reading is that Byrne is not blaming one group or another.

  • In reply to Richard Davis:

    Correct.

  • By the way, how do you even know it was "one lunatic"?

  • You could be right. Lunatics abound.
