Illinois' financial bomb gets national attention

Thanks House Speaker Michael Madigan for making Illinois no longer just a laughing stock but for creating a story line that resembles the world watching  as the Titanic sinks.

Here's one example: "How Illinois became America's most messed-up state"

Here's another: "No other state has come close to the mess that Illinois is in."

Yet another, from the New York Times

Let's not leave out NPR.

Also: "On many economic measures, Illinois is the sick man of the Midwest. It’s the only state that has lost population for three straight years, and it’s a laggard in job and income growth."

  • It's amazing how Speaker Madigan could cause all of this damage all by himself, without the help of a bungling, inept governor or anyone else.

But at least it is nice to see you can properly source a story without relying on Illinois Policy Institute.

As we previously discussed, the General Assembly has done more than its share to violate the Finance and Revenue articles of the Illinois Constitution. Apparently, on the last day, the scaredy cats who were afraid that the governor would veto the legislation finally made preliminary steps to move it. Now, for instance, they have to decide what to do about the telephone fee surcharge amendatory veto, for instance.
