When the Chicago Teachers Union blitzed Springfield on Wednesday to intimidate lawmakers into collapsing before the teachers' outrageous demands for more, more and more, they unfurled a sign hanging from the gallery proclaiming, "Rauner's Greed Hurts Illinois."
They got that wrong. It's the Chicago Teachers Union greed that is maiming Illinois, sending it into hospice care and bypassing the intensive care unit.
It's not Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner who is looking to pad his paycheck. It's the Chicago teachers who are living in their own fantasy
world, expecting a will-o'-the-wisp to show up with armloads of money to endow ever more benefits and secure their jobs forever and ever. It's the Chicago Teachers Union that threatens to shut down the schools. And it's CTU president Karen Lewis is who comparing Rauner to terrorists who kill innocent people.
This is the same Karen Lewis who a while back said that the latest offer by Chicago Public School contract negotiators was a reasonable one, virtually the same one that an independent fact-finder more recently agreed was fair.
Did Karen Lewis then reverse herself, instead of pitching a settlement to the union's elite bargaining group that turned it down (but not unanimously)? One can reasonably ask if Lewis has lost control of the union (even though she was crowned to another term as president without opposition)? Does her heightened
babbler-mouthed rhetoric reveal a Lewis that has found herself having to fall into line with the CTU's most radical and militant members? The members who can't see beyond their noses and who believe in fairy tales about a broke state coming up with hundreds of millions more dollars?
Members whose greed knows no bounds?
