Long-time Chicagoans will remember John Coleman, a Chicago meteorologist and founder of the Weather Channel. On this Earth Day he has issued a plea to get politics out of climate science, arguing that politics has corrupted the debate over climate change and global warming. In the USAToday, he said:
When all the scare talk is pushed aside, it is the science that should be the basis for the debate. And the hard cold truth is
that the basic theory has failed. Many notable scientists reject man-made global warming fears. And several of them, including a Nobel Prize winner, are in the new Climate Hustle movie. The film is an informative and even humorous new feature length movie that is the ultimate answer to Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth. It will be shown one day only in theaters nationwide on May 2.
In a way, it's ironic that Coleman uses the same argument from authority that global warming alarmists employ--namely the B.S. about "97 percent of scientists" agree that global warming is manmade. The global warming alarmists will insist that Coleman's scientists are not to be believed because they have been corrupted by special interest (e.g.. oil companies) money. As if the United Nation's panel on climate change and its acolytes haven't been corrupted by all the government money coming to them from green ideologues who command so many bureaucracies.
When you clear it all away, scientific arguments can be made on both sides. It's the substance of the arguments that needs respect.
