The Illinois legislature is the perfect place for Barack Obama to show up

What could be more fitting? A bumbling president addressing the disastrous Illinois legislature. How appropriate that President Barack Obama should hang out with the Democrat-controlled legislature that has  left the state of Illinois  teetering on the brink of a fiscal collapse.

No doubt Obama and his White House script writers  haven't noticed the irony that the president is coming to address the near bankrupt Illinois the day after he has submitted a federal budget with a gaping $616 billion hole. You have to look long and hard to find another state as in the stew as much as Illinois, but head to Washington, and  the budget hole alone could swallow the entire Midwest.

Consider this: Obama's budget forecasts deficits as far as the eye can see. If you insist on a number, it would $9.8 trillion over the next decade. This surely will date me, but I remember when President Lyndon Baines Johnson was struggling to keep his budget under $100 billion total. He failed.

Just as has the Illinois legislature, under the domination of Democrats for the last few years, has failed to come anywhere close to passing a responsible budget. Obama undoubtedly will crow about how things under his "leadership" have gotten so much better, as the BS, piled higher and higher, now spills over to Illinois.

Only a few people will remember when Obama served in the Illinois legislature because his presence wasn't felt and his contributions were nil. Except of course to follow the Democrat's leadership down the money drain.

State Rep.Thaddeus Jones, (D-Calumet City) is co-sponsoring a bill that would make Obama's birthday, August 4, a state holiday. How appropriate--another paid holiday off for government workers.
