Below is a video of a Chicago Cubs song that's worth hearing. Even though I've been a Chicago White Sox fan for the past 65 years, it struck me as, well, nice. No sarcasm meant here.
Joe Gates sent it to me with the note:
This is for die hard Cubs fans, those of us that really love Wrigley Field. It's the words I like the most. We have the best park in the USA.
Just As Long As The Cubs Are Playing -I heard it play while I was at Wrigley last year, and it just hit me.
Listen to it the next time you're at Wrigley, and you may grab you as well.
Joe, I don't know when the next time I'll be in Wrigley Field. In the late '50s as teens, my friend Paul Happ and I used to take the North Shore train down to Howard to catch the L to Wrigley Field. Sometimes the upper deck was closed because so few people were there. Lord, the Cubs were awful then, but who would have guessed that a half century later Chicago still would be waiting for the Cubs to get into, much less win, a World Series. I remember watching Ernie Banks and Gene Baker making their debut as the Cubs' first black players. And the college of coaches. And the Cubs and the Philadelphia Phillies regularly fighting it out for last place.
Well, at least the Cubs now have a following. Even if so many of the fans are there to score and hook up.
