Laura Washington's hypocrisy

Chicago Sun-Times columnist Laura Washington is hypocritically fretting over the “disrespect” shown to President Barack Obama, ignoring the mote in her own eye. As Eric Kohn succinctly explains in his Illinois Mirror piece, “Disparaging Politicians Is Pretty Darn American,” Washington forgets (more like ignores) the heaping serving of insult and manure dumped on President George W. Bush.... Read more »

Democracy sucks

How else, other than democracy sucks, to explain the horrendous state of Chicago and Illinois. How else to explain the seemingly ho-hum attitude (see John Kass’ eloquent column) toward former IRS executive Lois Lerner’s missing two (yes, two!) years of emails and the oh-so coincidental hard drive crash to some of the people who received... Poll: Who do you put your money on, Rahm Emanuel or Donald Trump in the great sign face-off?

It’s a battle between two gigantic egos, and one of them is going to lose.  The huge, back-lit TRUMP that the Donald is emblazoning  on his Wabash Ave. Tower has turned into national news story. Research  has come up with new ways to screen for colon cancer using less invasive procedures, reports the Wall Street Journal. It would be a great relief for those many Americans over 40-years-old who are subjected every few years to the uncomfortable (painful, some would say) colonoscopy procedure in which a TV camera is literally... Obamacare to increase the number of uninsured

Despite promises that it would cut deeply into the 40- or 50-million (the number always fluctuated) Americans uncovered by health insurance, one study now predicts that Obamacare (misnamed the Affordable Care Act) would increase the number of uninsured by about 10 percent more than t0day. Said Stephen T. Parente in a Wall St. Journal opinion... Read more »

Climate warming still a scientifically open question

As citizens of a self-governing nation, we should, we must, challenge everything. Every assertion, claim, proclamation and dictate should not escape close examination. No matter how certain, how dogmatic and how obvious it may be. No matter how complex, seemingly incomprehensible, settled and confusing it may be. A self-governing nation cannot afford to “take someone’s... Read more »
