Pat Moore: A role model for women journalists

Patricia Moore, a long-time reporter at the Chicago Sun-Times and Chicago Daily News is acclaimed for breaking ground for women journalists when their presence in the newsroom was a rare thing. At her memorial service on Saturday, talented younger journalists, like Cindy Richards and Suzy Schultz, didn't hold back their praise for making possible their own careers.

I knew Pat well from my own years at the Daily News and Sun-Times, where I owe her the debt of her friendship. I can attest that all the fine things that are said about her in this Sun-Times obituary are fitting and true. Women journalists everywhere who do not know who Pat was are obliged to read the obituary and give her belated thanks for all that she has done for them.

May she rest in peace.
