Hard to believe that the Sun-Times could have fired such a talent as Jeff Zaslow, the popular journalist and best-selling author who died in a car accident Friday. One of the best obits for the man is here, in the Wall Street Journal. I got to know Jeff (or Zazz, as his friends called him) and it is had have found a nicer, more talented guy in the business. We'll miss you, Jeff.
Oh, and why did the Sun-Times fire him such a talented man? Beats me. But it was the same idiots that worked for Conrad Black that dumped me as a columnist (before the Tribune was gracious enough to offer me a column) and ran the newspaper into the ground. I always felt that I was in good company. The Sun-Times, under new and smarter management now, must still be embarrassed about firing Zazz; his Sun-Times obit mentioned only that he "left" the paper.
