Chicago Rotary Chapters are heavily involved
Yesterday I described how the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is partnering with Rotary International to eradicate polio throughout the word. Here is a link to an Economist story providing more detail It's an interesting piece on the difficulties of ending polio, even harder than eliminating smallpox. Rotary International, a civic group, has raised and spent about $800 million on the campaign. About 20 Rotary volunteers from the Chicago area are heading for India on the latest inoculation campaign.
Here's a video of Dr. Rob Murphy, director of global health of Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine, explaining how polio can be eliminated.
