Two-thirds of Americans say now is a good time to buy a home

Is that possible? In this market?

Surprise. Despite dips in the number of people who think now is a good time to buy a home, 68 percent think now is the time. So, where are they?

Here's a view on this point from KCM Blog.

  • Sure it is a good time to buy a home, if prices are down 30% from before the crash. It was a good time to buy stocks in March 2009, if one had the guts to do it.

The only question is whether one can get a mortgage to buy a home.

It is not a good time to sell a home, especially if you are underwater. A couple of days ago, I received a solicitation from the Ugly Houses buyers, except they don't call themselves that in the north suburbs, like they do on billboards in the south suburbs. However, it appears that the speculative buyers are back in the market, if that is any sign. I hope I don't see Bob Vila on my doorstep Tuesday.
