This is rich. The result of Tuesday's election was precisely the same: To stop bad things from happening. Such things as more indebtedness, higher taxes, goofy bailout, government intrusion. And so forth.
years, Democrats have been calling that approach "divisive." Republicans, it appeared, were supposed to give up their beliefs for the sake of "working together."
Now, in Lynn Sweet's Chicago Sun-Times column, we learn that if Republicans don't cooperate with President Barack Obama's agenda (what did the election results tell you, Dick?), Democrats will have to go into the same mode that they condemned up until today. From Sweet:
Unless there is a dramatic change in Republican strategy," Sen. Dick
Durbin (D-Ill.) told me, "where they are prepared to sit down and work
with this president over the next two years, I'm afraid most of our
efforts are going to be stopping bad things from happening."
By the way, senator, too bad about that Majority Leader thing.
