What will Obama do about Yemen?

The  bombs sent from Yemen to two Chicago Jewish congregations turns the spotlight on that troubled nation, which, as this New York Times article explains, is emerging as an important operational base for Al Qaeda.

Intelligence experts had previously believed that radical Islamic murderers had used that simmering Gulf nation as a base for launching attacks against Europe, but the discovery of the Chicago-bound bombs may alter that thinking. Whether or not the Yemeni murderers are redirecting their strategy toward the United States, they will benefit greatly in their recruiting efforts, even as the attack failed.
The question now becomes: How will President Barack Obama and his administration handle the threat from Yemen. Let's not forget that it was in the Yemeni port of Aden where the suicide attack against the American destroyer USS Cole in 2000 killed 17 American sailors and injured 39 more. Former President Bill Clinton's weak and failed response to the attack is generally credited for emboldening Al Qaeda.

Will we see a repeat performance by Obama? Would that he just talked nicely to the murderers, we wouldn't have these problems, right?

  • When I first heard this, I wondered what Obama would have done if a bomb was mailed to KAM Isaiah Israel, which is across the street from WHOSE house?

But if you are implying that there won't be an Obama's War in Yemen, that's probably the case.
