Why not just give them the money?

A downtown sign touts a stimulus-funded road construction project. An Illinois congressman has introduced a bill to ban the signs, which he calls taxpayer-funded political propaganda.

Now comes news that Los Angeles Public Works Department spent $70 million in our stimulus money to create seven private sector jobs and save seven other workers from layoffs. Cost per job was $1.5 million.

This, according to an audit by the Los Angeles controller. Wait, it gets better: The 40 page report also revealed that the Transportation Dept. spent $40 million to create nine jobs. That only cost us taxpayers $4.4 million.
And President Barak Obama and his Democratic colleagues want to spend even more stimulus money. When is enough enough?

  • You forgot the value of all the asphalt, which has a service life of about two years. At least that is what is implied by showing a TIGER sign next to a highway.
