Brady widens lead over Quinn; Kirk and Giannoulias still neck and neck

A new Rasmussen poll is out and Bill Brady is extending his lead over incumbent Pat Quinn in the governors race:

Republican Bill Brady earns his highest level of support yet against Democratic incumbent Pat Quinn in Illinois' gubernatorial contest, moving this race from a Toss-Up to Solid GOP in theElection 2010 Gubernatorial Scorecard

At the same time:

Republican Mark Kirk and Democrat Alexi Giannoulias remain locked in a tight race for the U.S. Senate in Illinois.

It looks like the undecideds are breaking toward Brady, while Quinn's weakness can be traced to so-so support among Democrats.

My own guess is that Brady is doing much better in his gubernatorial race than his Republican teammate Kirk in the Senate race because of the dissatisfaction of conservatives with Kirk.

What this means is that conservatives could give the election to Giannoulias when they have the best chance in years of a Republican winning an Illinois Senate seat. They rather have a 100 percent pure liberal representing them than a 50 percent conservative. Sad.

  • You mean that this has nothing to do with the "I'm a liar Alexi Giannoulias, and I approve this message. Kirk is a liar" campaign?

How's the Libertarian candidate doing? Apparently about 5%. So why aren't the conservatives flocking to him?

Also, while there is the margin of error and all that, this seems to be the first report in a while that has Kirk up.
