61% Say Cutting Spending Will Create More Jobs Than Obama's New $50 Billion Program

That's what a new Rasmussen poll reports. This and a raft of other polls showing that President Barack Obama and his hard-left agenda are growing increasingly unpopular with the public is forcing David Axelrod and his strategists to whistle a different tune.
A year ago, Obama was touting how his agenda is what Americans wanted. Now that Americans are saying that they don't want it, Obama will have to say that he's doing what's right, what's courageous in the face of mistaken public opinion.

  • I'm not sure how that works, given that business and individuals are not willing to spend now, despite record low interest rates. Of course, banks won't lend.

Of course, my main point is the idiocy of believing that polls prove anything, except maybe how the polled feel. This reached a zenith yesterday when the front page of the Tribune had a pie chart of a poll that prosecuting Blago again was 54-37-10 (which adds up to 101% if you ask me). Then it compounded the idiocy in its web headline that this was a "slim majority." Thank the Lord that the U.S. Attorney does not make prosecutorial decisions based on polls. I would also argue that making a decision on what would work based on a poll is nonsense, too. Now, saying that the economy hasn't recovered as fast as thought and some other approach may be necessary is different, but one would need empirical evidence of that. A poll isn't.
