Council OKs 3rd Chicago WalMart

That was fast. After battling for years just to get one, and then, belatedly, two, the third WalMart was approved by the City Council with flying colors. Now, can we get on with finding other good sources of jobs without the special interests (e.g. labor unions) interferring?

  • I see that you are joining the Tribune in concluding that "this was fast." That's a lie. This Walmart has been on the table almost as long as the one in Austin, which was approved six years ago. In that time, it went to the Planning Board, and back and forth to the Council. In that the logjam, as such, was broken over the Pullman Park one, sure the final vote was fast. But if this was so fast, why was the Tribune Editorial Board railing against the mudhole on 83rd Street? Wasn't it this mudhole?

Nonetheless, the Tribune is content with revisionism, rather than actual history.

  • In reply to jack:

I meant that it was fast after the second one was approved.

  • In reply to DennisByrne1:

Which, of course, is no big deal, since this was actually the second to apply.

Sort of like saying, after the Cubs win the World Series, that they ended their drought soon after the Red Sox and White Sox did. Except they probably won't.
