It keeps getting worse for the Democrats

Turns out that the guy Democratic voters nominated to be their candidate for Illinois Lieutenant Governor had been arrested in 2005 for domestic battery.

Scott Lee Cohen said that the previously disclosed arrest (dismissed because the woman didn't show up for legal proceedings) was a matter of an argument with his drunken girlfriend. Cohen said he hadn't laid a hand on here, but the Tribune reports that "records in the case raise questions about his version of events." Like, his allegedly putting a knife to her throat.
Democrats like to think of themselves as the women's party, more sympathetic in all regards to feminist causes and concerns. Now the question becomes: Will the party disavow this guy or set up an independent candidate to run with Quinn?

  • You forgot the actuality I mentioned in response to Kass's column, to wit...

If Cohen is knocked off the ballot, the Democratic Committeemen (otherwise known as the Machine) pick Quinn's running mate. So, pick your poison.
