Kup is rollin' in his grave

The legendary Pump Room, the upscale restaurant that was the favorite of celebrities, is downsizing and perhaps even losing its illustrious name.
The Sun-Times Dave Hoekstra reports that the bar will remain open, and feature a lighter bistro menu.  The main dining room will remain empty except for special occasions.
The famous "eatery" (sorry, falling into Kup's lingo here) was opened when celebrities stopped in Chicago overnight on trips between New York and Los Angeles. Sun-Times columnist Irv Kupcinet entertained them in Booth One, picking up the kind of tidbits that made his column famous.
By coincidence, I suppose, the last night for the famous Don Roth's restaurant in Wheeling was New Year's Eve. Times change, tastes (culturally and culinarily) change, but I'll still miss the old time elegance.
Below are photos from the Pump Room. Can you identify the celebrities?

  • When you're young you think the world began the day you were born...wrong...the Pump Room closing is just one of a teary 101 Chicago closings in recent years...the world changes as you walk in it....but some changes hurt more than others...this for me will be one of them...if you have enough tears handy, I can list the other 100
