12,000 Illinois students skip mandatory test

"It certainly sounds suspicious." -- understatement of the year

The Sun-Times reports that loads of high school juniors are skipping tests they must take before graduating.

Rich Township High School District 227, headquartered in
Olympia Fields, racked up the worst PSAE skip rate in the state, with
42 percent of kids who were listed in October as seniors failing to
take an exam required of all public school juniors last April, a state
Board of Education spokeswoman said.

Ya think it might
have something to do with the fact that disproportionate numbers of
absent students are minorities or those with special needs, so that the
school will look better when the results come out?

More evidence
that the entire standardized testing scheme, from the federal No Child
Left Behind Act all the way down to the local level, is nothing but a
circle jerk.
