I won't try to explain, nor can I follow, Sun-Times columnist's Mary Mitchell's reasoning here.
Somehow, she managed to get from the firing/resignation of President Obama's environmental executive Van Jones to this conclusion:
Given the critical battle under way over health care, Jones did the right thing.
But let's stop pretending that the fierce opposition from the right isn't racism.
I don't expect you to give it a rest, Mary. I know you can read my white, conservative, old man's racist mind, and call me and everyone like me out on it. But having worked with you for several years at the Sun-Times, I know that you can do better.
And a better column for you would have been to defend Jones for telling the truth when he called Republicans assholes. No one should be fired for telling the truth. I know you would have had a lot more fun defending that position than scratching that old scab of racism. I'm sure your all your readers would have been amazed and refreshed that this time you didn't blame something on race.
