What I was hoping for was a little dignity when Tiger Woods and the PGA came to Chicago this weekend. Maybe Chicago golf fans would be a little more sophisticated than galleries in other cities, where a few idiots manage to embarrass their city.
But no. It would not be.
Tiger would bend over a putt and in just an instant after the putter blade sent the ball toward the hole, some idiot would shout, "Go in the hole!" Sometimes more than one moron would shout simultaneously, as if they were in a race to be heard first on the national broadcast. The shout always came before anyone knew whether the ball had a chance to go into the hole or whether it was so poorly struck that it would slide off the other side of the green. Sometimes the shout was heard out on the fairway, when the golfer's second shot was so far away that it had no chance of going in.
Chicago's chance to show some class, spoiled by some fools who snuck in from Bushville.

I agree with this accessment. Golf etiquette is falling by the wayside quickly. It used to be the drunks in Scottsdale were the only loud fans for golf. Now people think it is acceptable to yell when it is not appropriate. Too bad.
Dennis, golf aside your GOP constitutionalism might find a smile in the 9/13 post on my blog http://takingasecondlook.blogspot.com/
But then, do Republicans ever smile..??
Dennis: Seems like this subject is apolitical. I completely agree with your commentary. It's not just a matter of etiquette. Random crowd noise could affect any golfer's game. Spectators who yell out like you describe should be ejected. Ron Schwartz http://workplacelawyer.com
