Will Daley hang it up?

Chicago's next mayor?

Here is a fascinating column by veteran political reporter Greg Hinz speculating that Daley might decide to retire if he doesn't nail down the 2016 Olympics. If he does, who would fill his shoes? Greg has an intriguing list of possibles. Heading the list is (gulp) Rahm Emanuel.

  • While Rahm's name came up first, Hinz basically threw in the hats of every possible name.

But let's get real. Just as Blago proved to Sanford and all who follow him that you don't have to resign, Richard J. Daley proves that the only way you remove a Mayor Daley from office is on a stretcher from a steakhouse. Losing the Olympics would just be something else for a nervous laugh, sort of like apologizing for the parking meter fiasco, but not apologizing, or coming up with same lame excuse about the switches for ditching the Block 37-Airport Express idea after putting a quarter billion of someone's money into that hole under the mall to be (and yet having his minions cry that the CTA lacks capital money).
