President Barack Obama's Chicago advisers are taking it on the chin for the
weakening of public support for the health care upheaval that Democrats want to impose on Americans.
McClatchy Newspapers columnist, was angry, indeed, that health-care reform is on "life support." And while everyone is wondering if it will be taken off the respirator, Obama goes on vacation in Martha's Vineyard to work on his golf and tennis game, Galloway said.
He doesn't name them, but here's what he had to say about Obama's Chicago advisers, whom he assigns blame for botching the president's signature program:
Everything that could go wrong did go wrong. Everything he and his
much-vaunted Chicago advisers have said and done on health-care reform
has been botched.
That would have to be chief of staff Rahm Emanuel and senior adviser David Axelrod. Might as well throw in Valarie Jarrett too.
It wasn't too long ago that similar complaints were lodged against former President Bush. Democrats whined about Bush retreating too often to his home in Texas and asking how the country's business could get done with the president out there chopping brush. (Same complaint as I recall was lodged against Ronald Reagan.)
Anyway, it never struck me as an argument with much merit. The president is at the center of a communications universe, and if he wants to get in a little workout on the driving range between calls and arm twisting (oh, right, no arm twisting; its a new world of bi-partisanship), it's all right with me.
It's just a lot of fun watching the Democratic tactics during the Bush administration coming back to bite Obama in the butt. And, from one of his supporters.
And some folks didn't believe us when we warned that you wouldn't want any Chicago pols in the White House.
