I recently stumbled across an article on RELEVANT Magazine's website about prayer. It addresses how easy it is to ask God close-ended questions, when really, all He wants is a running dialogue with us - to get to know our hearts, and satisfy our deepest needs.
I don't know about you, but I can be pretty demanding with God. How often do we pray, "Can the Cubs go to playoffs this year??," or, "Can I win the lottery?!," or, "Can I ace this test?" One of the most poignant points from the article was, we aren't often interested in digging deep enough to figure out WHY we feel a certain way or want a certain thing.
WHY do we want the Cubs to go to the playoffs this year? WHY do we want to win the lottery? And WHY do we need an A on that test?
Most times, if we hit our knees and ask God to show us why we're begging for these things, He'll show us what we REALLY need - the affirmation of His presence and love.
In the words of my classmate Greta, "Guys, I think we all just need to chill."
I like this saying, because it reminds me that, yeah, God's got us covered.
Like Paul says: "And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:19
