2014 NFL Mock Draft: 3 Round WTF Edition

2014 NFL Mock Draft: 3 Round WTF Edition

We're only three weeks away from the 2014 NFL Draft, and the rumor mill is flying. With this being "the deepest draft I've seen in 30 years," the misinformation heading into the selection process will only continue to grow. Between the exceptional amount of talent available, and teams looking to trade, this could be a remarkably active three days.

Before we get to the picks, a couple quick predictions:

  • The Rams will trade Sam Bradford before the end of the first round to add more picks.
  • The Patriots will trade Ryan Mallett for picks in the 2015 Draft.
  • Both trades will surprise the talking heads because of the caliber of picks St. Louis and New England were able to get for their respective assets.

Why would the talking heads be surprised?

This is a great, deep class - but not at the quarterback position. Every signal caller in this group has some question marks, whether it's Manziel's size, Bridgewater's ability to throw without a glove or Bortles' ability to adjust to big-time competition. At this point, Bortles is the consensus #2 quarterback on the board behind Manziel, and many have said his ceiling is Ben Roethlisberger.

Sam Bradford isn't working out in St. Louis, and they need to bring in someone new. If a team likes a guy and he's off the board, they may get desperate. That's bad for the GM in need, and great for a team looking to move on.

Ryan Mallett is a practice all-star whose career passing numbers are 1-4 for 17 yards. He's one year away from free agency and has a huge arm; New England won't be able to afford him next year. So if the Pats can get a second round pick for a guy with four pass attempts on his NFL resume, they'll do it.

What we present below is a mock draft that does not include any trades that haven't already taken place. Some of the players we list below will undoubtedly be gone well before we have them coming off the board, but teams will be moving up/down to get the guy they want the entire weekend.

With that in mind, here we go!

  • The Bears have the 51st pick not the 46th in the 2nd round. All the 8-8 teams rotate pick positions, the Bears drafted 1st of the 8-8 teams in the 1st round, then last of the 8-8 teams in the 2nd round. They also pick 2nd to last of the 8-8 teams in the 3rd round (82nd over all).

  • Amateur hour. Bears pick 51st in the 2nd #1. They will not take a LB in round 2 unless Mosley falls there(which he won't) #2. They will take a CB or DT at 51 #3. A RB in the 3rd round? Try RB in the 6th round for the Carimi trade #4. You got their draft slot wrong in the 3rd round #5. They will take a CB or DT in the 3rd round...unless there is unreal value at QB on the board #6.

All this said, this mock cannot be taken seriously cause all the draft slots for multiple teams including the Bears are wrong.
