While you were waiting for/watching the Bears second preseason game, there were a few significant moments on other teams in Chicago.
Earlier in the afternoon, three pitches after TV color man Bob Brenly predicted it, Cubs left fielder Alfonso Soriano hit a two-run homer to give him 1,000 RBI in his career.
Between the two halves of the Cubs-Reds double header, word broke that the Cubs are close to a blockbuster contract extension with young shortstop Starlin Castro on a deal that could be as long as eight years, and could be worth as much as $76M.Reports are that it would be a seven-year, $60M deal with an option for an eighth year at $16M.
The first place White Sox had a few moments on Saturday as well, in spite of another loss to the Royals.
Kevin Youkilis picked up the 1,000th hit of his major league career, which is a nice mark for him. Not many of them have been in Chicago, but he's been dynamite since being acquired.
More notably, Adam Dunn hit the 400th home run of his career. The shot made Dunn and Paul Konerko the first teammates to hit their 400th home runs in the same season in Major League history. After an awful season last year, Dunn's been a monster at the plate this season and has been at/near the top of the major league leaderboard in homers all season.
